Softball: The Record Newspapers All-Area softball team

Here is the Record Newspapers All-Area softball team.

Ellie Alvarez, Yorkville, junior, shortstop: Top hitter for Southwest Prairie West and sectional champions. Alvarez hit .432 and posted a .461 on-base percentage with five homers, 25 RBIs, 32 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 29 games. Had an .885 fielding percentage at shortstop.

Mia Corres, Oswego East, sophomore, outfielder: Wolves’ center fielder was an SPC West all-conference pick in first high school season. Corres hit .375 with a .670 slugging percentage, and had 33 hits with two homers, 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Great glove in outfield posted a .905 fielding percentage.

Madye Greenwood, Oswego East, junior, outfielder: Hard-hitting lefty bat hit .462 with a .514 on-base percentage and 1.099 OPS. All-conference selection had 30 hits, two homers, 16 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Right fielder posted a .974 fielding percentage.

Caitlin Hartsell, Oswego, junior, first baseman: Panthers’ junior hit .287 with three homers, five doubles and 23 RBIs. In the field had a .987 fielding percentage.

Megan Leonard, Oswego East, senior, outfielder: Western Illinois commit was a Class 4A Second Team All-State pick by the Illinois Softball Coaches Association, a repeat All-State selection. Wolves’ leadoff hitter hit .439 with a .467 on-base percentage and .633 slugging percentage, with 43 hits, 30 runs scored and 13 RBIs for Oswego East team that won program’s third regional title.

Mackenzie Melzer, Yorkville, senior, outfielder: Foxes’ center fielder and leadoff hitter hit .330 and fielded at an .833 percentage in 28 games. Melzer hit two homers, drove in 14 runs, scored 29 runs and had 24 stolen bases.

Marissa Moffett, Oswego, freshman, infielder/outfielder: All-conference selection hit .284 with five doubles and 18 runs scored. Posted an .865 fielding percentage.

Yorkville's Avery Nehring

Avery Nehring, Yorkville, junior, catcher: Foxes’ catcher hit .326 with .388 on-base percentage in 29 games. Scored 15 runs and had a reliable glove behind the plate with a .988 fielding percentage.

Madi Reeves, Yorkville, sophomore, pitcher: Record Newspapers Player of the Year. Hard-throwing right-hander led Foxes to Southwest Prairie West title and first sectional championship in program history. Reeves went 20-4 with a 0.97 ERA and 341 strikeouts over 166 1/3 innings. Illinois Coaches Association Class 4A First Team All-State pick.

Yorkville's Kaitlyn Roberts

Kaitlyn Roberts, Yorkville, sophomore, outfielder: Moved to top of the order at midseason, was a sparkplug offensively for Foxes. Roberts hit .387 with a .417 on-base percentage and two homers with 15 RBIs and 24 runs scored. Did not make an error in right field.

Morgan Robertson

Morgan Robertson, Oswego East, junior, catcher: Butler recruit and all-conference pick batted .381 with a .678 slugging percentage and 1.077 OPS. Sweet-swinging lefty had 34 hits, five homers, 29 RBIs and 21 runs scored. In the field posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Emily Schofield, Newark, senior, catcher: Illinois Softball Coaches Association Class 1A third-team All-State pick, a repeat selection, and three-time unanimous all-conference selection caught every inning of Newark’s varsity games and didn’t commit an error. Schofield led Newark in hits with 33, and batted .418 with a .465 on-base percentage and three doubles, three triples, eight homers, 15 RBIs and 31 runs scored. Schofield also had 22 stolen bases.

Kaitlyn Schofield, Newark, sophomore, pitcher/infielder/outfielder: Illinois Softball Coaches Association Class 1A third-team All-State selection was also unanimous all-conference. Led Newark with a .455 batting average, and had .507 on-base percentage with 30 hits – five doubles and five homers – with 30 RBIs and 21 runs scored. As a pitcher went 9-2 with a 1.173 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 65 1/3 innings.

Grace Stevenson, Plano, senior, shortstop: Repeat Illinois Softball Coaches Association Class 3A All-State pick, this year a second-teamer, and three-time Interstate Eight all-conference selection and three-time academic all-conference selection will be playing softball collegiately at Rock Valley College. This season Stevenson hit .561 and fielded at a .964 percentage.
