Record Newspapers boys soccer season preview: Five players to watch in 2021

Here are five boys soccer players to watch in the Kendall County Newspapers coverage area this season.

Daniel Avila, Oswego, junior, forward: The Panthers have graduated some serious talent over the last two years, like Omar Carreno, Mason McCaw and Steven Udy. Avila, who has played varsity since he was a freshman, could be a player to watch going forward. He had a goal and an assist in last season’s regular-season match with Naperville North, showcasing that potential.

Carson Collett, Newark-Seneca, senior, midfielder/forward: Newark’s offensive MVP and a unanimous all-conference pick as a junior, Collett had 21 goals and 18 assists as a center fielder.

Preston Huitron, Yorkville, senior, midfielder: Huitron was an all-conference pick as a junior with nine goals and five assists. A leader on and off the field, Huitron anchors the midfield for the Foxes.

Brooke Kala, Newark-Seneca, senior, midfielder/forward: Kala did not play high school soccer over her first three high school years, instead opting to play club. But the Tennessee-Martin commit is a special talent who should team with Collett in a potent Newark-Seneca attack.

Kellen Klosterman, Oswego East, junior, midfielder: Klosterman, who played on Oswego East’s varsity team as a sophomore, is a key member of a deep 19-player junior class for the Wolves that could have them contending for a top spot in the Southwest Prairie Conference.
