COVID-19 surge in Kendall: County reports 398 new cases, one more death

A surge in new COVID-19 cases among Kendall County residents is continuing.

In its weekly report, the Kendall County Health Department reported 398 new confirmed cases of the virus among county residents as of Dec. 2 and one more death from the virus.

The death brings to 120 the total number of county residents who have died from the virus since the onset of the pandemic.

The health department also reported a sharp rise in the test positivity rate for the virus among county residents. In its Dec. 2 report, the health department listed the test positivity rate at 8.4%, up from 6.8% reported Nov. 24.

The 398 new cases is the largest number of new COVID-19 cases reported by the department in its weekly report since Sept. 23, when 477 new cases were reported.

The number of new cases reported by the department had fallen into the low double digits in early summer but began to steadily climb in mid-July.

The health department’s Dec. 2 report lists 77,302 county residents, 60.43% of the county’s population, as fully vaccinated, an increase of 653 over the 76,649 county residents listed as fully vaccinated by the department Nov. 24.

In a related matter, the health department has announced a modified schedule for its weekly COVID-19 vaccination clinics at the health department building at 811 W. John St. in Yorkville. Vaccinations are free.

Clinics will have normal hours through Dec. 17 with Wednesday pediatric dose clinics from 2 to 5 p.m., Thursday adult dose clinics from 3 to 6 p.m., and Friday adult dose clinics from 9 to 11 a.m. A pediatric dose clinic also is scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 22.

No clinics will be offered from Dec. 23 to 31. Clinics will resume the week of Jan. 3 for both adult and pediatric COVID-19 vaccinations.
