Kendall County Health Department reports two more COVID-19 deaths; toll now at 87

The Kendall County Health Department reported the deaths of two more county residents due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, March 3.

In a statement, the health department described the deceased as a male in his 80s and a female in her 60s with health complexities.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends during this difficult time,” health department officials said in the statement.

The total number of county residents who have died from COVID-19 now stands at 87.

The 87 COVID-19 deaths would rank the virus behind heart disease and cancer as the leading cause of death among county residents, based on 2019 Illinois Department of Public Health death statistics. That year, the IDPH reported that cancer claimed 167 lives in the county followed by heart disease at 124 death. Accidents and unintentional injuries were the third leading cause of death in the county in 2019 at 43. Flu claimed a total of 13 county lives.

Also on Wednesday, the health department reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 among county residents.

That brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county to 11,442, with 6,689 listed in recovery, according to the health department.

People ages 20 to 49 make up the majority of COVID-19 cases in Kendall County, according to health data. People in their 20s make up 17.7% of all cases, while people in their 30s make up 18.2%. People in their 40s make up 19.2% of the cases as of Wednesday.

Residents ages 60 and older comprise 10.9% of all cases in the county, according to county health department data. People younger than 20 make up 17.7% of all county cases.

Women account for 52% of county COVID-19 cases, while men account for 47%, according to Wednesday’s county health data.
