Kendall County Health Department reports 73rd COVID-19 death

The Kendall County Health Department reported the death of a county resident due to COVID-19 in a statement issued Wednesday evening, Jan. 20.

Health department officials described the victim as a male in his 70s with health complexities.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time,” health department officials said in the statement.

The death brings the total number of county residents who have died from COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic to 73.

In a related matter, the health department also reported 54 new cases of COVID-19 among county residents as of Wednesday. That brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county to 9,909, with 5,162 as listed in recovery, according to the health department.

According to Illinois Department of Public Health data as of Wednesday, 10,358 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the 60548 ZIP code (including Sandwich) with 1,042 confirmed cases, 9,353 tested in 60545 (including Plano) with 1,246 confirmed cases, 21,682 tested in 60560 (including Yorkville) with 2,021 confirmed cases, 20,189 tested in 60538 (including Montgomery) with 2,389 confirmed cases and 26,172 tested in 60543 (including Oswego) with 2,708 confirmed cases.

People ages 20 to 49 make up the majority of COVID-19 cases in Kendall County, according to health data. People in their 20s make up 17.7% of all cases, while people in their 30s make up 18.2%. People in their 40s make up 19.3% of the cases as of Wednesday. Residents ages 60 and older comprise 11% of all cases in the county, according to KCHD data. People younger than 20 make up 17.2% of all county cases.

Women account for 53% of county COVID-19 cases, while men account for 47%, according to INSERT DAY’S county health data.
