ABATE windshield-washing project May 8 in Sandwich

Open Roads ABATE of IL Inc. members will be washing windshields from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Sandwich Casey’s, 902 E. Church St.

Every May, motorcycle chapters partner to promote awareness of motorcycles on roadways. At interstate rest areas and service stations throughout the state, volunteers wash vehicle windshields and distribute motorcycle safety information reminding motorists to start seeing motorcycles. This program has spread to other states with volunteer motorcycle groups experiencing the same great success.

Since the Illinois Windshield Washing Project began in 1987, motorcycle chapters have reached many motorists to alert them that May is Motorcycle Awareness Month and to remind them of the safety message to share the road with motorcycles.
