Letter: Geneva teachers, staff continue to impress during challenging times

To the Editor:

I retired from teaching in Geneva at the end of the 2020 school year, at the beginning of the COVID-19 nightmare.

Since then, I have listened to the teachers’ experiences of uncertainty, frustration and determination. I hoped for the day that things would return to normal. When the principal of Geneva Middle School North called me before the current school year started to ask if I would cover a maternity leave over the winter, I accepted gladly. I felt privileged to be in the classroom with your children and the Geneva staff. Children are resilient, parents are supportive and the staff is phenomenal.

Being back in the classroom, what encouraged me the most was the strength of leadership of both the teachers and principal of Geneva Middle School North. I found that over the past 18 months since I was gone that the team has become stronger, more cohesive and more innovative. To improve under these circumstances is a testament to the love of parents, the passion of my co-workers and the strength of the leadership of Brenna Westerhoff and Geneva Middle School North.
