Letter: Thank you for supporting ‘Gifts for Yanks’

To the editor:

The members of the Batavia American Legion Post 504 wish to thank the community for their generosity towards our “Gifts for Yanks” Poppy Days on the Veteran’s Day weekend.

Your show of support for this important program is greatly appreciated. We also would like to thank the many Legion volunteers who put in hours on the streets and business’s. Legionnaires include:  Bill Allen, John Barrett, Eugene Becket, Greg Behnke, Irv Brohammer, Nathan Gustafson, Robert Gustafson, David Jordan, Rick Kirk, Don Nallenweg, Tim Sipes, Sid Tobias and Robert Zeman.

Many thanks go out to the are businesses that allowed us to be inside or outside of their buildings.  They include: Batavia Jewel-Osco, Batavia Wal-Mart, Batavia 7-11 on E. Wilson Street, Pal Joey’s Pizza, Apple Villa Restaurant, Briana’s Restaurant and Lumes Restaurant.

All the proceeds of “Gifts for Yanks” go towards the veterans now residing at the Holmstad in Batavia, Heritage Woods in Batavia and Batavia Rehab.  

The Batavia Post 504 hopes to continue to help with the needs of our veterans who and are currently giving so much for our country. We hope everyone enjoyed their Veterans Day and took some time to reflect on the reason for the holiday – remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
