Discover your new St. Charles Public Library: Happy holidays!

The holiday season is filled with family, friends and activities. It is such a fun time of year, and it’s also a season of giving.

The St. Charles Public Library again will be a collection site for Jim Wheeler’s Toys for Kids, The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree, the Illinois Youth Center and Becca’s LEGacy. These organizations collect donations to provide a little holiday cheer for local children and teens. Visit the library’s website at www.scpld.org for information regarding these giving opportunities.

The library also is hosting the Friends of St. Charles Public Library Holiday Gift Book Sale. The Friends gift-wrap select, gently used books for resale that make the perfect holiday gift for avid readers. There are many opportunities to give back to the community, and we hope you consider these efforts.

After the busy holiday season, consider the library when you need a little quiet time. We like to think that the St. Charles Public Library is a beacon of light to parents and caregivers who need a momentary break. Our most recent Discover Your Library newsletter features parent programs for the winter months. Activities range from a parenting book club to a Preschool Fair. These programs give caregivers a great way to unwind and participate in adult conversation. In addition to programming, our Youth Services department has kits that feature materials carefully curated for various topics. These are just a few ways that our library focuses on the needs of parents and caregivers.

Finally, I want to include a reminder of the library’s holiday hours. The St. Charles Public Library will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, Saturday, Dec. 25, and Saturday, Jan. 1. We will be closing at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, in observance of New Year’s Eve. While the library is closed, remember that our online digital resources are always available, providing you with access to eBooks, Audiobooks, databases, music and more.

We wish you a wonderful holiday season.
