Word from Elburn: End of summer at Town & Country Public Library

Town and Country Public Library has exciting online and in-person programming planned for kids and adults in August, including an End of Summer Celebration.

Join us from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6 for Art in the Park, our End of Summer Celebration, and help us finish off our Summer Reading Program with a splash of color. Arts and crafts stations will be set up outside the library building and throughout the park across the street. Everyone is welcome to attend. Water will be provided.

Weekly outdoor storytime with Mrs. Hansen is on Tuesdays from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Bring a blanket to sit on and enjoy a morning of songs, stories and finger plays with a different theme each week. Storytime is on the front lawn of the library, weather permitting.

Outdoor storytime with Miss Nancy takes place on Friday mornings in August outside the library. Miss Nancy’s learning plan includes songs, flannel board activities and stories that will work to enhance the development of early literacy skills. Two storytimes will be offered each Friday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 to 11:15 a.m., weather permitting. Register separately for each session.

Want to learn more about your family history? Join us from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 for Virtual Genealogy Seekers: Back to School – Making the Best of School Records. Learn about the many ways you can access details about your ancestors by using school records such as yearbooks, school schedules, alumni directories and much more. This is one class you won’t want to ditch. Registration is required.

Anyone turning 65 or approaching retirement is welcome to attend a Virtual Medicare Basics seminar from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 9. Register in advance for an opportunity to get some helpful guidance navigating the world of Medicare.

Family History Writers is a group for those interested in writing down their family stories. Whether you already are working on a project or looking to get started, this is the place for you. The group meets virtually via Zoom on the second Wednesday of every month. This month’s meeting will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 11.

Our Film Club will have its final Summer of Hitchcock program virtually from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 13. Watch a film from your living room while film studies instructor Joshua Casburn helps you experience movies in a new way. Pop some popcorn, change into your pajamas and get comfy on your couch.

The Friends of the Library will host their monthly coffee bar from 10:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 14. Grab a coffee and catch up with your friends and neighbors.

We aren’t letting the pandemic stop us from enjoying a Late Night Lock-In on Zoom. Join us from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 27 for a fun genealogy session. Come in your jammies if you want. Make sure to have some munchies and your drink of choice. We will socialize and encourage each other while we research remotely.
