Charcuterie boards are an increasingly popular way to bring people together.
On Saturday, St. Charles-based Campbell Creations will team up with chef Dana Bujalski and Mixology Salon Spa/116 Gallery in an event where beauty and art meets culinary. The event also serves as a way to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Mixology Salon Spa/116 Gallery, located at 116 W. Main St. in downtown St. Charles.
This is the second time Campbell Creations has collaborated with Bujalski and Mixology Salon Spa/116 Gallery. Campbell Creations plans to collaborate with more businesses in the future, including The Graceful Ordinary restaurant and Eden Restaurant and Events.
“We want to use their venue to teach our class and support one another,” said Shawn Campbell, who owns Campbell Creations with her husband, Bill.
Bill Campbell creates the charcuterie boards, which serve as a unique piece of artwork as well as a way to serve meats and cheeses with style. Saturday’s event will feature a charcuterie class taught by Bujalski as well as DJs Ryan Fasshauer and Teresa Bondavalli, handcrafted cocktails, a flow artist performance by Dizzy Dynamic and an interactive art show.

Campbell said she got the idea to host charcuterie classes in collaboration with other businesses after hearing from people who purchased charcuterie boards at her business.
“They were wondering how to create charcuterie on these beautiful boards,” she said.
Mixology Salon Spa/116 Gallery owner Phoebe Falese said the upcoming event will be a good way to celebrate five years of being in business. Along with being a salon and spa, her business also features artwork.
“Events are a big thing for us,” she said. “The art is changed out every two months, so we have gallery openings and work with the artist a lot during the time that they are in here.”
Bujalski, who is from Geneva, will be showing those who attend her class how to display food on a charcuterie board.
“With the holidays coming up, the board is going to be more holiday themed,” she said. “I’m going to bring some really cool different elements to the board.”
Bujalski is not surprised that charcuterie boards have become so popular in the last few years.
“They’re artsy, they’re festive and they’re fun,” she said. “Food always brings people together and when people can gather together around the board, it’s a very big conversational piece.”
