Kane County issues new mask guidelines for its buildings

Pierog urges wearing masks, getting vaccinated

GENEVA – In response to the growing spread of the delta variant and information provided by county health officials and the Centers for Disease Control, Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog announced new mask guidelines for all county buildings, according to a news release.

“Because Kane County is now an area of substantial transmission for COVID-19 and the increasing prevalence of the delta variant, we are announcing new mask guidelines for anyone who enters a county building,” Pierog stated in the release.

“Regardless of vaccination status, we are strongly recommending anyone who works in or visits a county building wear a mask,” Pierog stated in the release.

“As long COVID-19 remains prevalent within the county we have to remain vigilant and adjust our public health guidelines to protect the most vulnerable among us,” Pierog added. “Getting vaccinated and masking remains the safest way to stay ahead of the virus and prevent further spread.”

The Kane County Health Department is encouraging residents to follow the CDC COVID-19 guidelines for vaccinated and unvaccinated people which includes the following:

• Those who are not vaccinated should wear face masks covering their nose and mouth, maintain six feet of physical distancing and wash hands often.

• Those who are vaccinated should wear face masks indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission to maximize protection from the delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others.

“Kane County is now an area of substantial transmission so we are therefore strongly recommending that residents follow the CDC COVID-19 guidelines and wear a mask indoors in public,” Michael Isaacson, assistant director of community health for the Kane County Health Department, stated in the release. “The Kane County Health Department continues to provide vaccination clinics as vaccination is still the best weapon against COVID-19.”
