Man killed in St. Charles crash

A man was killed Monday afternoon after rear ending a semi-truck on Kirk Road in St. Charles.

The crash remains under investigation. The driver’s name is not being released at this time pending family notification.

At 12:33 p.m., St. Charles police and fire departments responded to a report of a crash with injuries at the intersection of Kirk Road and Division Street. Initial callers indicated they believed one person might be entrapped in their vehicle, according to a news release from the St. Charles Police Department.

According to a preliminary investigation, a semi-truck and trailer was stopped facing south in the outside lane of the 1500 block of South Kirk Road waiting for the light to change at Division Street, the release stated.

A white Ford pickup truck was southbound on South Kirk Road behind the semi-truck also in the outside lane of travel. The Ford truck did not stop and rear-ended the trailer of the semi-truck, according to the release.

The driver of the Ford truck was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the semi-truck was treated at the scene by paramedics and released.

The St. Charles police department was also assisted on the scene by the Geneva Police Department, Geneva Fire Department and the Kane County Crash Assistance Team.
