Preservation Partners receives grant to assess condition of historic Beith House

St. Charles-based Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley will be able to have an assessment done on the condition of the historic William Beith House in St. Charles thanks in part to a $2,500 matching grant from nonprofit group Landmarks Illinois.

Landmarks Illinois’ Preservation Heritage Fund grants are intended to provide monetary assistance to significant structures or sites in Illinois that are under threat of demolition, in imminent deterioration, in need of stabilization, in need of structural or re-use evaluation, or need to be evaluated for landmark eligibility.

The Beith House Museum, located at 8 Indiana St. in St. Charles, is one of the few surviving examples of limestone houses from the 1840-1850s in the Fox Valley that has not been significantly altered. The house now serves as the headquarters of the Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley.

Improvements are needed to the building’s mechanical, electric and plumbing systems. Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley plans to use the grant to help pay for a condition assessment to the building to determine the scope of work for these repairs and establish a timeline for completing them.
