Burlington Central sophomore earns Eagle Scout

Project involved building helmet cubbies for baseball league

Daniel Alexander Aykroyd of Elgin Scout Troop 38 received his Eagle Scout rank at the troop’s first Eagle Court of Honor April 17, 2021.

ELGIN – Daniel Alexander Aykroyd of Elgin Scout Troop 38 received his Eagle Scout rank at the troop’s first Eagle Court of Honor April 17 at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Elgin, according to a news release.

Aykroyd, a sophomore at Burlington Central High School, is a founding member of Troop 38, starting when he was in fifth grade. He is the first Eagle Scout for the troop.

Aykroyd’s Eagle Project consisted of designing, planning and overseeing the building of helmet cubbies for a local baseball league.

Previous to that, Aykroyd served his troop in various leadership positions: as a Patrol Leader, a Senior Patrol Leader, an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and he is currently serving as a Troop Guide.

In further achievement in Scouting beyond required the merit badges for the Eagle Scout rank, Aykroyd earned the Eagle Bronze, Silver and Gold Palms, the release stated. Eagle Palms are awards presented to Scouts who earn five, 10, 15 or more merit badges beyond the 21 required to become an Eagle Scout.

Aykroyd is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, which is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America. It is composed of Scouts who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives as elected by their peers, according to its website, oa-bsa.org.

Aykroyd is a member of the Lowaneau Allanque Lodge 41 of the Three Fires Council in St. Charles. A lodge is a local group of the Order of the Arrow.

Aykroyd is an honor roll student at Burlington Central and participates in baseball, the Academic Bowl and chorale.
