Carpentersville man gets 9 years in prison for sexual assault of child

KANE COUNTY – A Carpentersville man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after agreeing to plead guilty to sexually assaulting a child, a Class X felony.

According to a news release, Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Tyler Cox stated in court that Nelson V. Ramos, 37, of the 1-99 block of Ash Street, Carpentersville, sexually assaulted a child under age 13 that he knew between August and October of 2017.

In addition to the prison term, Ramos must register for life as a sexual offender. He must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence, and will receive credit for 1,217 days served in the Kane County jail, the release stated.

“I want to commend this young victim for the courage she showed in disclosing this abuse to her mother, who immediately contacted the police,” stated Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser in the release. “Too many survivors of sexual abuse are denied justice because those who can help them choose not to believe them when they share their story of abuse. I’m grateful that wasn’t the case here. My thanks to the Carpentersville Police Department for referring this case to the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, and to CAC Investigator Tim Bosshart and ASA Cox for their excellent work.”
