GoFundMe page set up to help survivor of Aurora carjacking

Friends and family of a Montgomery woman who is recovering from gunshot wounds after being carjacked on Jan. 16 are hoping the crowdsource funding website GoFundMe will raise money to help with medical costs.

Kim Weibring was sitting in her car in the parking lot of a Wendy’s restaurant on Orchard Road in Aurora around 4 p.m. Jan. 16 when three men pulled her out and shot her in the back before speeding away in her car, according to Aurora police. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and is now recovering from spinal cord injuries.

According to the GoFundMe page, Weibring faces several surgeries, followed by a lengthy rehabilitation. The page, which was set up by Weibring’s brother and friend, states that the average yearly cost after a spinal injury is $347,484. As of Thursday night, the page has raised about $151,000.

“[Kim] has been told to expect a difficult and challenging rehabilitation process. She is optimistic and remains upbeat that she will walk again, but now faces spending the rest of her life in a wheel chair. Kim is the strongest person I know, if anyone can overcome the chaos she was viciously and randomly thrown into it is her, but it is obvious she will need our love and assistance,” Weibring’s brother, Michael Aigner, wrote on the page.
