Services announced for Kaneland School District head nurse who passed away unexpectedly

Visitation for Kaneland School District 302 head nurse Barb Giese is set for Saturday, Jan. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Maple Park.

Giese, 61, died unexpectedly on Jan. 9. She worked as a nurse at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital for 13 years prior to joining the school district.

Giese was a resident of Maple Park and had three children and one grandchild. She attended Kaneland High School, and college at Northern Illinois University and Aurora University.

Only five people will be allowed in the church at a time at the visitation, so guests are advised that they may have to wait outside with no shelter. Mass will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. and Fr. Ariel Valencia, pastor of the church, will officiate with interment at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Maple Park.
