Longtime St. Charles alderman steps down

Dan Stellato was first elected to the St. Charles City Council in 1995

Before stepping down as a longtime alderman on the St. Charles City Council on Monday, 1st Ward Alderman Dan Stellato left his fellow aldermen some words of advice.

“I would like to suggest to you that when you argue – and you will – you do so with respect,” said Stellato, who had been on the City Council since 1995. “As you vote on any particular issue, and many of you have heard me say this, use three tools – your head, your heart and your gut.”

St. Charles Mayor Lora Vitek expressed her appreciation to Stellato for his efforts.

“I can speak for the entire City Council and this community to say that we are so appreciative for everything you’ve done for our city,” Vitek said. “I’ve looked to you many a time for advice and expertise.”

Stellato, who is moving to Arizona, was first appointed to the St. Charles Plan Commission in 1989 prior to being elected to the City Council. Third Ward Alderman Todd Bancroft also expressed his appreciation to Stellato.

“You really set the mark on what public service means and you really set the mark on what giving back to a community is all about,” Bancroft said.

Vitek, with the advice and consent of the City Council, will appoint someone to finish out his term, which doesn’t expire until 2023. Those who are interested must have lived in the ward for at least one year, be a registered voter and not owe any taxes to to the city or have been convicted of a felony.

Those interested can submit a letter of interest and resume to Vitek. Materials either can be dropped off at City Hall; mailed to 2 E. Main Street, St. Charles, IL. 60174 or emailed to tconti@stcharlesil.gov.

All letters/resumes must be received by 4 p.m. July 14.
