Bell elected to St. Charles Dist. 303 School Board in razor-thin victory

Kate Bell won by two-vote margin over Jim Stombres

In what can only be described as a razor-thin victory, parent Kate Bell has won election to the St. Charles Dist. 303 School Board.

Tuesday was the last day for provisional and vote by mail ballots for the April 6 election to be counted in Kane and DuPage counties. According to the results from both counties, Bell received 3,278 votes and retired St. Charles North High School music teacher Jim Stombres received 3,276 votes.

Since the election, the race had gone back and forth as more mail-in ballots were counted. Bell had said she did not anticipate such a close race.

Both Stombres and Bell had said they would accept whatever happens.

“We both feel the same way,” he said. “We’ll let the process play out and accept the results.”

In addition to that race, Dist. 303 School Board members Ed McNally, Heidi Fairgrieve and Carolyn Waibel won reelection to the board.
