BATAVIA TOWNSHIP – An Aurora man was charged with driving under the influence after he crashed into a traffic signal in Batavia Township and knocked it down, according to Kane County Sheriff’s reports.

Efrain Contreras III, 24, of the 900 block of Fifth Avenue, Aurora, was charged June 20 with driving under the influence, according to reports.

Deputies were called to Main Street and Fabyan Parkway in Batavia Township at 2:40 a.m. on June 20 where they found a white Nissan Altima that had crashed into the traffic signal, reports stated.

Contreras was standing in front of the Nissan when deputies arrived. Batavia Fire Department paramedics checked him out, but Contreras said he was not injured, the report stated.

“As Efrain spoke with the [fire department], I observed him swaying, he had the strong odor of an alcoholic-based beverage coming from his breath and his person and he had vomit on the left leg of his shorts,” the report stated.

Contreras’s breath sample showed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.122%, the report stated, more than 1.5 times the legal limit of 0.08%.
