ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – A motorist from Marseilles was charged with several traffic violations after he crashed his pickup truck into the guard rail on Keslinger Road at Meredith Road – then walked away, according to Kane County Sheriff’s reports.

Floyd E. Storey, 41, of the 3500 block of East 27th Road, Marseilles, was charged with duty upon damaging unattended vehicle or property accident; driving with a suspended license; failing to stop at a stop sign; failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident; driving without insurance; and causing a property damage accident, reports stated.

Deputies were called to the intersection of Meredith and Keslinger roads in Maple Park near Kaneland High School at midnight on April 28 where a pickup truck had apparently driven through a stop sign on Meredith Road, crashed through a guard rail on the south side of Keslinger Road, and was in a cornfield, the report stated. Meredith is a T-intersection with Keslinger, the report stated.

The caller told deputies he drove past a gray Dodge Ram that was in the cornfield and he had stopped to check on the driver, the report stated.

The caller told deputies he saw a middle-aged white man walk around the vehicle for a few minutes, then he continued walking through the cornfield headed south towards I-88, “stumbling” as he went, the report stated.

The 2017 Dodge Ram tore 20 feet of guardrail belonging to the Kane County Transportation Department, at a cost of about $1,000, the report stated.

Deputies observed medium front end damage to the Ram as well as driver’s side and undercarriage damage, the report stated.

Deputies contacted the owner of the Dodge Ram by phone, who told them Storey had crashed the vehicle and that he had just arrived at his residence on Echo Valley Lane in Campton Hills, the report stated.

According to online maps, the Meredith and Keslinger roads intersection is more than eight miles away from Echo Valley Lane in Campton Hills.

Deputies eventually were able to talk to Storey at the Echo Valley Lane residence, where he admitted he was driving the Dodge Ram, the report stated.

“Floyd advised me that he wasn’t paying attention, hit the brakes late, but he drove through the intersection and crashed into the guardrail,” the report stated. “Floyd advised me that he called his father to come pick him up to take him and take him to (the) residence because (that person) owns the truck. Floyd admitted to drinking some alcohol but due to the two-hour delay, I did not start a DUI investigation.”

Storey’s driver’s license was revoked as of Nov. 25, 2017 due to a drunken driving conviction, the report stated.

The deputy would not pursue an Article 36 vehicle seizure of the Ram due to the innocent owner exception, as the vehicle’s owner told deputies he did not know Storey’s license was revoked, the report stated.
