St. Charles man seriously injured in hit-and-run crash dies

Kane County Sheriff Chief Deputy Pat Gengler said the Kane County Coroner’s Office will need to complete its investigation

A 72-year-old St. Charles man who had been seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash near St. Charles on Sept. 13 has died.

Ruben Campuzano, 47, of the 500 block of Harrison Street,Elgin, had previously been charged with failing to report an injury accident, aggravated reckless driving and his second offense for driving while on a suspended license.

Kane County Sheriff Chief Deputy Pat Gengler said the Kane County Coroner’s Office will need to complete its investigation.

“Once that’s done, everything will be turned over to the State’s Attorney for review,” Gengler said in an email.

The crash happened at the intersection of Route 25 and Gilberts Street. The victim had been traveling north on Route 25 on his 2020 Harley Davidson three-wheel motorcycle and was stopped at a red light at the intersection, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Campuzano was also traveling north on Route 25 in his SUV and approached the motorcycle from behind at a high rate of speed. Campuzano struck the motorcycle with his SUV and fled the scene going north on Route 25.
