High school sports roundup for Wednesday, April 14: St. Charles East’s Arrambide strikes out 17 in season opener

GIRLS SOFTBALL

St. Charles East 8, Jacobs 1

In her first varsity softball game since the Class 4A state championship game in 2019, St. Charles East senior star pitcher Katie Arrambide pitched like there was never a drop-off.

Arrambide, the reigning Chronicle Softball Player of the Year, had 17 strikeouts in a 8-1 victory over Jacobs on Wednesday. The Harvard commit went seven innings, surrendering just two hits and one walk.

Samantha Gaca had a home run in her first career at bat – with three RBI – and Nikki Johnston had three hits and three runs.

GIRLS SOCCER

St. Charles East 3, Fremd 0

St. Charles East defeated Fremd 3-0 to open the season. McKenna Gahagan, Hannah Miller and Ashley Stellon each had goals.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Batavia d. Glenbard North 25-16, 25-13

Batavia (6-5 overall, 6-5 conference) was led by Zoe Kramer (seven kills), Amanda Otten (17 Assists, five digs, two kills, two blocks) and Cassidy Carby (six kills, four digs).

BASEBALL

Geneva 3, Metea Valley 1

Geneva bounced back for its first win of the season in a 3-1 victory over Metea Valley.

Carson Sprague had two RBI while Ryan Huskey had one RBI.

Brian Wrenn pitched four innings, allowing four hits and one earned run with three strikeouts.

St. Charles North defeated Neuqua Valley 15-4.
