Number of new COVID-19 cases reported in Kane County drops below 100

Illinois public officials on Sunday reported 73 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and one new death, a woman in her 50s.

That is a decrease from the 117 cases reported on Saturday. Kane County has now seen 57,368 total cases of the virus and 766 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 102 consecutive days below 8%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 5.4%. Currently, 23% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity increased to 6.9% from 6.7% and DuPage County’s stayed flat at 4.7%.

Hospitalizations increased five out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,860 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 27 additional deaths Sunday. The state received the results of 73,159 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday afternoon.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate decreased to 3.4% from 3.5%.

Illinois has seen 1,339,728 total cases of the virus, and 22,019 people have died.
