New COVID-19 cases in Kane County fall on Wednesday

Illinois public officials on Wednesday reported 106 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and no new deaths. There were 160 cases reported on Tuesday.

Kane County has now seen 55,955 total cases of the virus and 753 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 91 consecutive days below 8%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 6.1%. Currently, 22% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average increased to 7.6%, and DuPage County’s decreased to 5.4%.

Hospitalizations have increased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,765 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 28 additional deaths Wednesday. The IDPH received the results of 81,133 tests leading up to Wednesday afternoon.

According to the IDPH, the rolling seven-day positivity rate average in the state is 3.8%.

Illinois now has seen 1,309,552 total cases of the virus, and 21,722 people have died.
