Slight uptick in number of Kane County COVID-19 cases

Illinois public officials on Sunday reported 196 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and one new death, a man in his 80s.

That is a slight increase from the 176 new cases reported on Saturday. Kane County has now seen 54,505 total cases of the virus and 748 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 81 consecutive days below 8%. The region’s positivity rate decreased slightly from 7.4% to 7.3%. Currently, 27% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average decreased from 8% to 7.8% and DuPage County’s stayed the same at 7.1%.

Hospitalizations have increased nine out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,942 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 16 additional deaths Sunday. The state received the results of 69,600 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday afternoon.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate remained the same at 4.2%.

Illinois has seen 1,279,772 total cases of the virus, and 21,505 people have died.
