Kane County COVID-19 positivity rate continues to climb

Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is now at 8%

Illinois public officials on Saturday reported 176 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and no new deaths.

That is a slight decrease from the 184 new cases reported on Friday. Kane County has now seen 54,309 total cases of the virus and 747 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 80 consecutive days below 8%. The region’s positivity rate increased from 7.2% to 7.4%. Currently, 29% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average increased from 7.9% to 8% and DuPage County’s increased from 6.9% to 7.1%.

Hospitalizations increased nine out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The IDPH also reported reported 3,630 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 13 additional deaths Saturday. The state received the results of 84,478 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Friday afternoon.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate stayed flat at 4.2%.

Illinois has seen 1,276,830 total cases of the virus, and 21,489 people have died.
