Kane County sees sharp decrease in number of COVID-19 cases

38 new cases reported Sunday

Illinois public officials on Sunday reported 38 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and no new deaths.

That is a sharp decline from the 81 new cases reported Saturday. Kane County has now seen 51,237 total cases of the virus and 723 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 46 consecutive days under 8%. The region’s positivity rate stayed stagnant at 4.5%. Currently, 30% of ICU beds are available.

The region has 84 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average stayed the same at 4.9% and DuPage County’s also remained the same at 4.3%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable for eight out of the last 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,068 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 14 additional deaths Sunday. The state received the results of 68,094 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday afternoon.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate decreased from 2.4% to 2.3%.
