Kane County’s COVID-19 positivity rate continues to decrease

Seven-day positivity average decreases from 3.8% to 3.7%

Illinois public health officials on Sunday reported 80 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and one new death, a man in his 70s.

That is a slight increase from the 71 cases reported Saturday. Kane County has now seen 50,746 total cases of the virus and 717 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 39 consecutive days under 8%. The region’s positivity rate decreased from 3.6% to 3.5%. Currently, 29% of ICU beds are available.

The region has 77 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average decreased from 3.8% to 3.7% and DuPage County’s dropped from 3.5% to 3.4%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable for eight out of the last 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,249 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 22 additional deaths Sunday. The state received the results of 66,500 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday afternoon.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate remained the same at 2.4%.

Illinois has seen 1,186,696 total cases of the virus and 20,516 people have died.
