COVID-19 cases increase slightly in Kane County Thursday

Two new deaths reported

Illinois public officials on Thursday reported 261 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and two new deaths, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 70s. That is an increase from the 233 new cases reported Wednesday.

Kane County has now seen 45,073 total cases of the virus and 617 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 10.1%. Currently, 19.3% of medical/surgical beds are available and 25.3% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and one day under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 11.9%, and DuPage County is at 9.2%.

Hospitalizations have decreased nine out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 6,652 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 88 additional deaths Thursday. The IDPH received the results of 118,036 tests leading up to Thursday afternoon.

According to the IDPH, the rolling seven-day positivity rate average in the state is 6.8%.

Illinois now has seen 1,052,682 total cases of the virus, and 17,928 people have died.
