Wild West Polo Tournament in Batavia to support the arts

The sport of kings will adopt a Wild West theme for this summer’s benefit polo tournament from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at the Blackberry Polo Field to support the Batavia Arts Council and Shakespeare at the Centre.

“Our summer theme is ‘The Wild West’ – plan your tailgate display and feast around our theme,” announce organizers. “Welcome to the Wild West, where cowboys and ranchers ruled the land, the sheriff kept law and order, and saloons and Wild West shows provided lots of stimulation. Your tailgate can include cowboys, cowgirls, ranchers, rodeo stars, saloon girls or the local general store, jail, or Sunday Social. You can go ‘Gunsmoke’ or ‘Little House on the Prairie’ – get creative.”

There will be social distancing between the tailgating parties, and less “social” travelers strolling the walkway. Featured will be prize raffle baskets.

“Please plan to bring your family outside to relax, picnic and enjoy polo,” the organizers added. “We plan to bring out the wagon rides this summer, and our raffle baskets will be the best yet.”

Julane Sullivan, president of the Batavia Arts Council, notes the two team sponsors again are Bulldog Plumbing and A Mirror Image.
