Joliet West coach Bill Lech steps down at Joliet West after four seasons

Joliet West football coach Bill Lech has decided to end his tenure leading the program.

Lech resigned his coaching post last Friday citing personal reasons for making the decision. Lech declined to elaborate further on the reasons for leaving the coaching job, but stated he was doing so on his own accord. He will remain on school staff as a physical education teacher.

Joliet West went 3-6 in the fall and lost two games via forfeit because of a team-wide COVID-19 issue. The Tigers did finish the season strong with wins in their final two games.

Lech compiled a 13-21 record in four seasons with the Tigers. Joliet West qualified for the playoffs once during Lech’s tenure in 2019. Joliet West went 4-5 that season but earned a playoff bid by virtue of their Southwest Prairie East conference title. It was Joliet West’s first conference title in football since 1969.

Before his tenure at Joliet West, Lech compiled a 51-23 record in seven seasons at York High School from 2005-2011 with six playoff appearances. Prior to a qualifying in 2021, York hadn’t made the playoffs since Lech left the program.
