The Kendall County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that an individual who was found deceased in Violet Patch Park off Route 25 in unincorporated Oswego Township on Friday morning was an Oswego East High School student who earlier had been reported missing.

A spokesman from the coroner’s office said Mark Chapas was pronounced dead at 10:50 a.m., and the cause of death was determined to be suicide.

Chapas was a senior lineman on the Oswego East High School varsity football team. Oswego East’s regular-season finale against Plainfield North scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Oswego East has been postponed.

Friday’s varsity game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday with senior night to follow. The sophomore game will kick off about 4 p.m.

Kendall County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene at Violet Patch Park and closed a portion of Route 25 adjoining the park as they conducted their investigation, which is ongoing.
