Area Roundup: Flanagan-Cornell/Woodland dominates previously unbeaten Martinsville

At Martinsville on Saturday, the Flanagan-Cornell/Woodland Falcons football team made the long trip south and brought home a win against previously unbeaten Martinsville, 36-13.

FCW (4-2) led 8-7 after one quarter and 24-7 at the half.

Falcons quarterback Dallas Hamilton ran for three touchdowns — from 40, 1 and 29 yards away — as part of his 77-yard rushing, 53-yards passing performance. Running back J.D. Ruddy added two rushing touchdowns and 93 yards, with Jesse Simpson rushing for 69 yards.

Sam Jones (two catches for 39 yards) led the FCW receiving corps, while defensively William Weber recorded 14 tackles (12 solo) including three tackles for loss. Joey Jones recorded a sack and 1 1/3 TFLs.

The Falcons will play Friday night at Woodland, hosting Hiawatha.

Cross country

Sandwich competes at Lisle Mane Event: At the Lisle Mane Event on Saturday, Sandwich’s boys placed eighth of 29 teams led by Max Cryer (24th, 17:14), Wyatt Miller (32nd, 17:31) and Hudson Wills (80th, 18:25).

For the girls, Sandwich’s Molly Roberts (141st, 24:18) led the way.

Boys soccer

Serena 2, Aurora Christian 0: Ben Shugrue made 16 saves for the Huskers and kept the clean sheet for the win with strong help from defensemen Mason McNelis, Hunter Staton, Bradley Armour, and Braxton Hart.
