Crystal Lake South quarterback Justin Kowalak had it working through the air and on the ground as the Gators defeated Hampshire, 49-38, in their Fox Valley Conference game at Hampshire Friday.

Kowalak, the area’s passing leader, threw for three touchdowns and ran for three more as South (1-2, 1-2 FVC) put up the most points it has scored since a 49-0 win over Chicago Kenwood in the first round of the 2018 Class 6A playoffs.

Hampshire fell to 1-2, 1-2.

Nate VanWitzenburg returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown for South.

Shane Moran and Cooper LePage had interceptions for the Gators, Andy Burburija and Kyle Kuffel each recovered a fumble.

Morris 56, Woodstock North 12: At Woodstock, the Thunder were unable to muster much of anything at home against Morris.

North dropped to 0-3 on the season following the loss.

St. Patrick 27, Marian Central 20: At Chicago, the Hurricanes fell to 1-2 on the season following a road loss to St. Patrick.

Freeport Aquin 54, Alden-Hebron 0: At Hebron, the Giants fell to the Bulldogs in their eight-man football game.

Thomas Webber led the defense for A-H (0-3) with six tackles and caught six passes for 26 yards on offense. Tyler Cunningham had four catches for 30 yards.

Giants quarterback Ben Vole completed 11 of 18 passes for 53 yards.
