Oswego-Joliet Central game canceled because of COVID situation at Joliet Central

The varsity football game between Joliet Central and Oswego scheduled for Friday at Ken Pickerill Stadium has been canceled due to a COVID situation at Joliet Central, Oswego athletic director Darren Howard confirmed on Thursday morning.

Oswego will take a forfeit win, moving the Panthers’ record to 1-2 on the season. It is the second football game in the Kendall County area to be canceled this week. The Plano-Sandwich ‘War on Rt. 34′ game was canceled due to a COVID issue at Sandwich.

Oswego football coach Brian Cooney said that Oswego contacted some schools for a replacement game, but “no one was interested.”

The Oswego-Joliet Central sophomores will still play at 5 p.m. Friday. The youth tackle and cheer will move up and take part in the sophomore game. There will be no admission charged for this game and concessions will be very limited.
