Football roundup: Polo falls for first time in 8-man, losing at home to West Central

Defending 8-man state champion Polo lost for the first time in its history as an 8-man team, falling 42-6 to West Central.

Polo got a touchdown in the first quarter, but trailed 20-6 at halftime and got no closer in the second half.

Parker Wolber had a TD catch for the Marcos’ lone score.

Fulton 49, Riverdale 6: The Steamers jumped out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in a Three Rivers rout.

Kyler Pessman scored on a 53-yard run just 13 seconds into the game, and then scored again 2:45 later on a 27-yard pass from Connor Barnett. Ethan Rash added a 2-yard TD run with 4:16 left in the opening quarter, then Pessman ran in from 15 yards out with 1:00 left.

Rash added a 28-yard TD run with 8:55 left in the second quarter, and Keegan VanKampen ran in from 4 yards out just 3:33 later. Ryan Eads closed the scoring with a 15-yard TD run with 1:01 left in the game.

Gage Hugart scored the only touchdown for the Rams.

St. Bede 24, Erie-Prophetstown 21: The Panthers scored first and last, but couldn’t hold down the Bruins in a Three Rivers game in Erie.

Kolby Franks scored from 6 yards out to open the scoring 4 minutes into the game, then connected with Trevor Cobo on a 40-yard TD pass with 3.5 seconds left in the first half to tie the score at 14. Connor Sibley ran in for a TD with 1:35 left in the game, but the onside kick attempt failed and St. Bede ran out the clock.

Luke Story, Tyreke Fortney and Noah Setser all had touchdown runs for the Bruins, and Nicholas Pearse’s 18-yard field goal with 3:44 left in the game proved to be the difference.
