Week 4 Friday Night Drive coaches poll

The wild Week 4 results obviously had wide-ranging impacts on the coaches poll as only half of the eight classes saw the same team in the No. 1 position.

Lincoln-Way East (Class 8A), Richmond-Burton (Class 4A), Williamsville (Class 3A) and Freeport Aquin (Class 1A) retained their top positions.

But losses by two No. 1 teams (East St. Louis and Batavia) plus a change of the stacking in two hotly contested classes (Class 2A and Class 5A) led to new teams at the top of those boards.

Class 7A’s new No. 1 team is Mount Carmel, while Wheaton Warrenville South made the largest individual jump, moving from 10th to second in the classification.

The surprising loss by East St. Louis in 6A, led to Antioch moving into the No. 1 position, but the Flyers didn’t tumble far with the loss, moving into the No. 2 slot.

The jostling for position continued in Class 5A, where St. Rita took back the top spot despite Sacred Heart Griffin’s impressive win over Rochester. Those two teams along with the No. 3 squad, Joliet Catholic, are still tightly bunched in voting points.

Class 2A has been another tightly contested class. Maroa-Forsyth re-emerged as the No. 1 team in the class, surpassing St. Teresa, which is just two voting points behind. Maroa also maintained a slim margin in first place votes, 6-5.
