The Mendota football program announced its schedule for the 2021 fall football season when the Trojans join the Three Rivers Conference.
Mendota, which has been in the Big Northern Conference, opens the season with crossover games at home against Erie-Prophetstown on Aug. 27 and at Riverdale on Sept. 3.
The Trojans’ first conference game is at home against Bureau Valley on Sept. 10 followed by at Princeton on Sept. 17, home against Hall on Sept. 24, a home crossover against Sherrard for Homecoming on Oct. 1, at Kewanee on Oct. 8, home against Newman on Oct. 15 and at St. Bede on Oct. 22 to end the regular season.
Randy Huebbe earns L-P’s Sir Ranier Award
La Salle-Peru softball coach Randy Huebbe earned the school’s Sir Ranier Award for the 2020-21 school year.
The honor “is given to a coach or sponsor who has shown dedication and commitment to their sport or club. These individuals go above and beyond to provide their athletes or members with an environment that encourages and supports sportsmanship, citizenship, community spirit and morale.”
MHS soccer players earn honors
Mendota girls soccer players earned National High School Soccer Coaches Association and Big Northern Conference honors.
Sophomore defender Emily Stewart was named NHSSCA All-Sectional as well as Second-Team All-BNC.
Junior midfielder Isabella Tolentino was selected NHSSCA honorable mention all-sectional and honorable mention All-BNC, while senior forward Daisy Arteaga was honorable mention All-BNC.
Hole-in-one made at Spring Creek
Ed Olszewski made a hole-in-one Sunday at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley.
Olszewski aced the 101-yard 18 hole using a 7-iron. Bill Martuzzo, Gary Quesse, Roger Sines, Rudy Galetti and Charlie Lishewski witnessed the shot.
