Resolve to Break These 3 Bad Cleaning Habits

2021 is the perfect year to jumpstart some better cleaning habits. Whether it’s leaving dirty dishes in the sink or letting paper collect on a desk, we want to help you.

Letting Paper Pile Up

You probably get a mountain of mail that seems to make a comfy home on your kitchen countertops or office desk.

Resolve to create a paper-clutter organizing system

Break this habit by designating better places for cluttered paper. Decide what’s worth keeping, what needs immediate action, and what can go. Do this at least once a week. Keep a designated spot for essential papers (receipts or upcoming bills) to help them from getting discarded accidentally.

Using Dirty Cleaning Supplies

Many of your everyday cleaning tools like your broom or kitchen sponges can collect harmful germs you might be embedding in fabrics or adding to high-touch surfaces in your home.

Resolve to disinfect cleaning tools regularly

A simple way to determine if your cleaning tools need to be cleaned is if they look dirty and/or they have a foul odor.

Decontaminate by:

Broom: Use warm, soapy water and soak your broom for at least 30 minutes.

Sponge: Soak it in a bowl of full-strength vinegar for 5 minutes.

Vacuum: Empty the canister or bag and then use a disinfectant wipe inside or spray with disinfectant.

Leaving Dirty Dishes in the Sink

Your sink is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and germs when dishes are left untouched.

Resolve to create a schedule for dish duty

Create a dishwashing schedule to take the guesswork out of whose turn it is to clean! For long-term success, remind everyone in the household to either put the dishes in the dishwasher or wash them immediately.
