DeKALB — With backup quarterback Ethan Hampton starting instead of Rocky Lombardi, the NIU football team was trailing Western Michigan
Key play: NIU tied things up with a 96 yard run by Clint Ratkovich, the second-longest run in school history and the longest since 1934. But on the next drive, NIU went 84 yards in three plays, the big blow a 50-yard pass from Kaleb Eleby to Skyy Moore.
Key stat: NIU was averaging 11 yards per carry and had negative passing yards in the game.
Key to the second half: Not to doubt NIU’s ability to come back, which the Huskies have proven to be adept at time and time again this, but they’d probably just be better off staying healthy, limiting key players, and regrouping for next week’s MAC title game.
