DeKalb firefighters invite locals to apply for grant program match to help supply heart defibrillators

DeKALB - Firefighters with the DeKalb Fire Department are partnering with the local union to outfit area businesses, places of worship and gathering spaces with electronic devices which will help in medical situations involving cardiac emergencies.

According to a news release, the DeKalb Fire Fighters Local 1236 is partnering with the DeKalb Fire Department to help provide Automatic External Defibrillators to those in need through a grant program to help purchase the devices.

The union will provide a matching funds grant to help businesses and other places of gathering purchase AEDs. All places wishing to apply must fall within the geographical jurisdiction covered by the DeKalb Fire Department, the release states.

The union and fire department announced a joint goal to make the city of DeKalb a “HeartSafe Community,” according to the release.
