DCCG to give away free food at 3 locations on Giving Tuesday

DeKalb County Community Gardens will be doing its part to address food insecurity in the community, as organizers plan to give away free food at three different locations throughout the county Tuesday.

The event is part of Giving Tuesday, known nationwide as a response to holiday shopping season staples Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. The giveaways will also be part of a fundraiser for the community gardens to continue its mission to serve, educate and empower the community by addressing food insecurity and providing opportunities for individuals to lead lives with dignity and choice, according to a news release.

In keeping with DCCG’s past year’s efforts to bring critical attention to food insecurity in DeKalb County on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30, the organization will look to supporters and community partners to help meet fundraising goals.

Three distribution sites will also distribute pre-packed food drive-thru free for anyone in need.

The locations will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Genoa Area Community Food Hub, 415 W. Main Street in Genoa; from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 340 W. Arnold St. in Sandwich; and from 6 to 7 p.m. at the DCCG Warehouse, 2280 Bethany Road in DeKalb.

New this year, residents can lend their support to DCCG at a number of local restaurant and café partners across DeKalb County who will have donation boxes displayed on counters during business hours.

Those businesses include: from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Jamrah Middle Eastern Restaurant, 209 E. Lincoln Hwy in DeKalb; from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Barb City Bagels, 118 E. Lincoln Hwy in DeKalb; from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Common Grounds, 2180 Oakland Dr Unit B in Sycamore; and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Sib’s Corner Grill, 137 W. Main St. in Genoa.

Throughout the day and evening hours, those interested are invited to keep an eye on DCCG’s Facebook and Instagram pages to watch fundraising efforts unfold throughout the day. To donate anytime on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30, text GIVEDCCG to 44321 or click the Donate button at www.dekalbgardens.org.
