Free electronics collection to be held June 26

DeKALB – The DeKalb County Health Department is hosting a free electronics collection this Saturday, June 26.

The collection will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 26 at DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport, 2200 Pleasant St. in DeKalb. A second collection will be held Oct. 16.

The collection is available to DeKalb County residents, with proof of address required.

Residents within DeKalb city limits are encouraged to utilize the E-Waste Collection services by Lake Shore Recycling Systems. Contact Lake Shore Recycling at 815-770-7550 or at DeKalb@LRSrecycles.com.

Sycamore, Genoa and Kirkland residents are encouraged to ustilize the At Your Door Service by Waste Management. Contact Waste Management at 800-449-7587, AtYourDoor@WM.com or www.WMatYourDoor.com.

Items accepted during the free electronics collection include office equipment and products, such as telephones, fax machines, cellular phones and pagers; small home appliances and improvement products, such as microwave ovens, hair driers, toasters, and coffee makers, blenders and mixers without glass; home entertainment items, including TVs, VCRs, DVD players, cameras, camcorders and video game players; and computer items, including computers, modems, printers, monitors, scanners, keyboards and CD-ROM and floppy disk drives.

Items not accepted include smoke detectors, air conditioning units, large appliances, refrigerators, car and marine batteries, hazardous materials, power tools, vacuum cleaners, light bulbs, plastic containers and dehumidifiers.
