A Brother’s Revival the first touring show to perform at the Egyptian Theatre post-pandemic

DeKALB – On Friday, the Egyptian Theatre will host its first touring show since the pandemic began.

A Brother’s Revival: A Tribute to The Allman Brothers Band will perform on stage at 8 p.m. Friday, June 25, at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St. in DeKalb.

The tribute act includes fan-favorite songs in their original format, just as they were performed during the bands’ most iconic years. Songs will include “Ramblin’ Man,” “Melissa,” “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” “Southbound,” “Whipping Post,” “Blue Sky,” “One Way Out,” “Soulshine,” “Revival” and more.

Tickets are still available for the show and can be purchased at the door, online or in person at the theater’s box office from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.

The show will be the first touring show to be held at the Egyptian Theatre since March 7, 2020, and it will be the first touring show since the theater completed its $6.5 million, 4,200-square-foot expansion and renovation project on Oct. 1, 2020. The project added air conditioning to the theater, new carpeting throughout the building, LED lights, two new high-efficiency boilers, two sump pumps, additional bathroom stalls and increased the lobby’s concession stand to six service stations and added a concession stand to the second floor.

“We are excited because it feels like we have the theater back,” said Jeanine Holcomb, the theater’s marketing and communications director. “This is not only our first touring show, this is also our first show with air conditioning. Prior to the expansion and renovation, we would be not be able to open and have shows during the three hot summer months.”

Holcomb said that now that the state is fully reopen during Stage 5 of the Restore Illinois plan, the theater hopes to “ramp up its schedule.”

Since tickets went on sale for Friday’s show in March, there will be some social distancing measures in place for seating. Masks are now optional for patrons, staff, volunteers and performers who have been fully vaccinated. For future shows, there will be no capacity restrictions or social distancing in place.

“We are looking forward to opening our doors fully and hosting live entertainment in DeKalb again,” Holcomb said.

Upcoming events include the theater’s family movie series featuring “The Sandlot” on July 20, “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” on July 27 and “Toy Story” on Aug. 3. Live music events scheduled include Resurrection: A Journey Tribute will perform Aug. 6, Happy Together Tour 2021 on Aug. 20, Sal Valentinetti on Oct. 8, Think Floyd USA on Nov. 5, Roy Orbison & The Everly Brothers Reimagined on Nov. 6 and Recycled Percussion on Nov. 12. More live events will be announced soon.
