Severe thunderstorm warning issued for DeKalb County until 4:30 p.m. Friday

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for DeKalb County until 4:30 p.m., a change in the drought-like conditions the region has endured for weeks.

Around 3:35 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Esmond, or 10 miles northeast of Rochelle, moving southeast at 25 mph.

The warning is expected to go through 4:30 p.m. and could bring 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Damage to vehicles is expected, along with the potential for wind to damage roofs, siding and trees.

The warning is for the northern parts of the county, including DeKalb, Sycamore, Shabbona, Cortland, Kirkland, Kingston, Malta, Lee and Fairdale.

Daily Chronicle reporter Katie Finlon captured this video of downpour in DeKalb Friday afternoon.
