Semi truck carrying alcohol overturns on I-88 Monday

KANE COUNTY – Illinois State Police are investigating a crash on Interstate 88 near the borders of Kane and DeKalb counties involving an overturned semi truck carrying enough alcohol to weigh 80,000 pounds, according state police.

According to passersby, the overturned semi blocked two lanes of traffic eastbound on I-88 along milepost 100 in Kane County near Keslinger Road at about 4:08 p.m. Monday. An automated Twitter account for the interstate says traffic was “getting by on right shoulder.”

There was one person who reported minor injuries, according to a news release from the ISP.

In a statement provided by the Illinois State Police around 6 p.m. Monday, reports stated the semi truck was traveling westbound on Interstate 88, and for “unknown reasons” went off the roadway, into the ditch and through the cables, causing the truck to roll over on its side into the eastbound lanes.

All eastbound lanes were blocked, with traffic diverted to the right shoulder as crews worked to move the truck, the release states.

As of 5 p.m., the right shoulder on eastbound I-88 remains open for traffic.
