A Verona man was flown to OSF Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford over the weekend after a crash involving a motorcycle and a car at the corner of Route 23 and Chicago Road in Victor Township, in the southern part of the county.
Douglas Wakeman, 56, of Verona, was driving a motorcycle shortly after noon on Sunday, May 2, when he collided with a car headed eastbound on Chicago Road which had failed to yield to the motorcycle’s right of way, traveling northbound on Route 23, according to police reports from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
The car had a passenger in it and was driven by a 19-year-old from Waterman, reports show.
Wakeman was airlifted by helicopter to St. Anthony’s due to his injuries, and both the motorcycle and the car had to be towed.
Charges in the crash are still pending, reports show.
