DeKALB – When Illinois’ stay-at-home order was issued, Whiskey Acres Distilling Co. decided to turn the lemons life handed them into lemonade – rather, the ethanol their distillery produced into hand sanitizer.
From March until May 2020, Whiskey Acres, located at 11504 Keslinger Road in DeKalb, made about 25,000 gallons of hand sanitizer. Whiskey Acres donated several thousand gallons of hand sanitizer locally, including to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb amid a national shortage due to a scramble for the vital product at the beginning of the pandemic.
